Dr. Maurice Lee

Dr. Maurice Lee was the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of St. Vincent de Paul’s Virginia G. Piper Medical & Dental Clinic from 2014-2020. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a Doctorate of Medicine and Masters of Public Health degree from the University of Arizona. Prior to medical school he served two years in the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Ecuador. During his family medicine residency he started and operated a free clinic out of the Chris-Town YMCA. After residency Maurice worked for a Phoenix Federally Qualified Health Center and joined St.Vincent de Paul full time in 2014, shifting the clinic from a sick-urgent care specialty based clinic to one that focused on quality primary care utilizing evidence-based medicine. In 2016 Maurice founded the Arizona Safety Net, a collaboration among 40+ Phoenix-area free and low-cost clinics aimed at improving health equity for Arizona’s uninsured through collaboration, quality improvement, and improved access to care. He is the recipient of the 2019 American Medical Association Excellence in Medicine Award and the 2020 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Health Equity for his work with the Arizona Safety Net.

Dr. Caitlin Lee

Dr. Caitlin Lee is the Director of Health Equity for Wesley Health Center and has been a member of the Arizona Safety Net since 2018. She has been integral in acquiring free medications and specialty services to the uninsured population that Wesley serves. Through her leadership she has been able to transform the manner in which chronic diseases are treated and increase quality across the board. In her first year as the liaison for the Safety Net she was able to increase specialty referrals 7000% for patients who were in need of specialty care but had nowhere to go.

Dr. Carie Barlow

Dr. Barlow was born and raised in a small town in northeastern Missouri. She graduated from medical school and completed her residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Internal Medicine. She then moved to Phoenix, AZ where she practiced internal medicine as a hospitalist for 7 years.

After having her two sons, she changed her focus in medicine. She joined Mission of Mercy as a volunteer physician. Mission of Mercy is a non-profit organization that provides free medical care for uninsured patients here in the Valley. She not only sees patients but also is the Community Affairs Medical Director. She is committed to helping her patients find free or low cost access to specialists and procedures for their complicated medical issues. In her free time, Dr. Barlow enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons and two dogs, as well as cooking, time with friends, and serving others in the community.

Dr. Diana L. Dunnigan

Dr. Diana Dunnigan is the Medical Director of Native Health in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to this she was the Chief of Pediatrics at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) where she was employed from 2002-2018. Her special interests are in access to care, childhood obesity, and literacy. She has spent the last few years working on improved access to care for children with autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Paul Lorentsen

As one of the co-founders of The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, Dr. Lorentsen has served on the Board of Directors since 1995.  Since 1999, Dr. Lorentsen has served as the Clinic’s Medical Director. Although he remains involved in quality assurance, strategic planning and fundraising, Dr. Lorentsen most enjoys his time spent in direct patient care.

Prior to his work at The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, Dr. Lorentsen was the Chief of Internal Medicine at Luke Air Force Base.  He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He received his MD from Loyola University of Chicago in 1990, and his Bachelor of Science from Gordon College in 1985.  He lives in Phoenix with his wife, Dr. Kelli Lorentsen, and their three children.

Christina Musch

Cristina Musch has been a member of Phoenix Allies for Community Health (PACH) since 2017. She has held various positions at PACH that range from an interpreter, to the Director of Clinical Operations to currently being PACH’s Community Liaison. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University where she currently is employed as a research technician in the lab Virginia G. Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics. Her current research focuses on identifying molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in breast cancer development.

Shannon Fears

Shannon Fears, RN, was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and is a graduate of Chamberlain University. 

In 2018, Shannon joined the Adelante Healthcare team, starting as a Quality Improvement Manager.  Shannon then stepped into the role of Population Health Manager when needed, and developed a full training and competency program for the Health Educators and Triage Nurses.   


Elva Hooker

Elva Hooker, RDN, CDCES is the Clinical Administrative Director of St. Vincent de Paul Virginia G. Piper Medical Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a native to Arizona where she attended Arizona State University and obtained undergraduate degrees in Nutrition-Dietetics and Spanish. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, she has a particular interest in the care of low-income populations at high risk for chronic diseases. She has worked in community health and management since 2008 focusing on weight management, diabetes prevention, and diabetes management education programs. In addition to patient care and education, she is a co-investigator for several ongoing research studies and has extensive experience collaborating with academic institutions, community stakeholders, and contributing to publications that advance the science. She is passionate about helping others grow professionally and become culturally sensitive in their practice. Elva has served as a preceptor for dietetic interns from local and distance dietetic programs through Maricopa County, Arizona State University, and others. She also serves as a Master Trainer for the National Diabetes Prevention Program of the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists. She served as an active board member of the Arizona Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for 6 years and was the acting President from 2018-2019.
